Aerification

August 17 - August 18

Our maintenance team performs our annual aerification.

Why aerification is needed:

  • Reduces soil compaction
Heavy foot traffic and mower use compress the soil, limiting root growth. Aeration loosens the soil, allowing roots to expand and strengthen.

  • Improves oxygen flow to roots
Grass roots need oxygen to survive. Aeration creates channels that let air move into the root zone.

  • Enhances water infiltration
Prevents water from pooling on the surface and helps moisture reach deeper into the soil profile.

  • Improves nutrient absorption
Fertilizers and soil amendments penetrate more effectively, leading to healthier turf.

  • Promotes deeper root growth
Stronger, deeper roots increase drought tolerance and overall turf resilience.

  • Reduces thatch buildup
Helps break down excessive organic matter that can prevent water and nutrients from reaching the soil.

  • Improves drainage
Minimizes muddy or soft spots and reduces the risk of disease caused by overly wet conditions.

  • Enhances playing surface quality
Results in smoother, firmer, and more consistent putting greens over time.

  • Increases turf stress tolerance
Greens can better withstand heat, heavy play, and environmental stress.
