Quail Ridge Golf Course Celebrates Successful Irrigation Modernization Project
April 2025
Quail Ridge Golf Course is thrilled to announce the successful completion of the irrigation modernization project, a significant step towards enhancing our sustainability and efficiency. We extend sincere gratitude to Mid America Golf for their exceptional work and dedication throughout this project.
“Baker City is pleased to see the completion of Quail Ridge’s irrigation project which will bring large cost savings to the City in terms of water use and electricity savings for Quail Ridge. It will also improve the quality of the course, which we hope will attract more visitors to Baker City. The golf course has been very valuable to the local economy in terms of jobs, opportunities for our children, and tourism. Local businesses and hotels appreciate the business from out-of-town guests who come to enjoy the golf course and other attractions across Baker County” –Baker City Manager, Barry Murphy.
The new irrigation system represents a substantial upgrade, designed to optimize water usage and improve the overall health of our golf course. With advanced technology and efficient design, we are now able to effectively manage our water resources, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards for our golf course while also being mindful of the environmental impact. Replacing an 80+ year old water system, the upgraded system is expected to reduce water usage by 30%-50% per day.
“Baker City is constantly looking to improve the efficiency of community water systems to assist in conservation of our most precious commodity, water. Quail Ridge Golf Course management and staff recognize the importance of conserving water and are a valuable partner to Baker City in our conservation efforts. The most recent monumental improvement, renovation of the golf course irrigation system, is an outstanding example of this partnership and our shared dedication to conserving water. The new irrigation system will result in significant water saving allowing for increased availability of water for our community.” – Baker City Public Works Director, Joyce Bornstedt
As the course continues to improve, we anticipate seeing increased traffic from out-of-town visitors as well. In 2024, Quail Ridge focused marketing efforts on driving tourism to the area. With enticing offers to attract out-of-towners as well as our major tournaments, Quail Ridge hosted 724 rounds from people who stayed at least 1 night in Baker County. This equates to over $200K added to our local economy in just a few summer months.
“Investing TLT funds in our local golf course not only enhances the local economy but also promotes sustainable growth. Golf tourism attracts visitors who contribute to a wide range of local businesses from hospitality to retail, creating jobs and stimulating economic activity. Moreover, Quail Ridge serves as a community asset, offering spaces for recreation and events, thereby fostering a vibrant local tourism scene.” – The Bridge Street Inn
As we look forward to golf next season, we are excited about the positive impact this project will have on our course conditions and overall player experience. The modernization of our irrigation system marks a new chapter for Quail Ridge, and we are eager to share the improvements with our valued passholders and guests.
Thank you once again to Mid America Golf for their outstanding work. We are proud to have such a dedicated team, and we look forward to a greener, more sustainable future at Quail Ridge.
